Photophysical and electrochemical properties of meso-tetrathien-2′-yl porphyrins compared to meso-tetraphenylporphyrin

A series of novel tetra-meso-thien-2-yl porphyrins were synthesised, and the effect variation in thienyl group on photophysical properties studied. Ground excited state UV–vis absorption, steady-state time-resolved emission, resonance Raman spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, used to establish extent electronic communication between central Zn(II) porphyrin ring various meso-substituent groups. The these compared zinc tetraphenylporphyrin (ZnTPP), elucidate position number rings. photochemically-driven antimicrobial activity zinc(II)-5,10,15,20-tetra(thien-2′-yl)porphyrin (ZnThPP) as a coating, was established against both Gram-positive Gram-negative bacteria, ZnTPP. Visible irradiation results significant response.

Regioselective meso-functionalization of the totally unsubstituted magnesium(II) porphine was performed by controlled potential electrolysis with pyridine and triphenylphosphine as nucleophiles leading to the original pyridinium and phosphonium substituted derivatives, respectively.
